Home Stay in Klong Dan
Over the weekend, we travelled to Klong Dan and stayed for a night to experience its weekly market that sells local food and crafts. We were graciously hosted by the locals to stay at their homes for a night.
In the past, Klong Dan was one of the largest ports in Songkhla province as it was located at the bank of River Dan. Recently, due to developments of more efficient road networks, caused river trades to dwindle. The lack of jobs resulted in migrations to other cities for a living.
The Abbot of Wat Klong Dan contacted Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) and asked for their help. They came up with various plans to revitalise the village. Part of the plan targeted tourism to revive the economy of the village, which included a weekly market that sells food and handicrafts, set up by residents and home stays at their houses.
People who left the village started to return, and the economic situation of the village have been improving greatly. The overall lifestyle of the locals is far better than prior to the commencement of the project.
