Hey There!

Measured drawings @ Songkhla train station

There were three days allocated to us to take measurements of the train station. We were subdivided into five groups of three: leveling, elevations, sections, walls and site context. For the first day, we took measurements for most of the architectural elements. Also, we drew sections and elevations of the train station.

For the second day, it was more of recording the details of the walls, floor texture and as well as the renovations. However, most of us managed to complete taking measurements of the station by the end of the second day. Hence, a large proportion of detailed measured drawings were completed in hub hoe hin.

After the completion of the drawings, we then learnt of the existing autocad drawings by the third day. I was a little taken aback upon learning that we have sort of redrawn the plan, sections and elevations when there was already a copy of compiled cad drawings. Hence, I felt that instead of replicating the drawings, we could have taken the opportunity to learn more about the site context. For example, we could have allocated one day to mapping out the essence of the community around the vicinity.

Even though we knew that the train station was the main focus of the three day activity, I felt that maybe it could have been more interesting if we allocated more time to learning more about the surrounding site context because ultimately it is the community that brings life to the train station. Also, I felt that even though it was more convenient and efficient to have five groups doing different tasks, it restricted us to focus on that particular assignment. Hence, it limited us to learning about what we were assigned to. However, we managed to get information from the other sub groups during the discussion sessions which were rather constructive.
